Top ODM and Broad-Based Government leaders have rallied behind Irene Nyakerario Mayaka, giving fresh momentum to her bid for the Nyamira Women Representative seat in the 2027 elections.
What was billed as an ODM women empowerment programme in Nyamira has turned into an important political moment for nominated MP Irene Nyakerario Mayaka, with senior leaders using the event to publicly highlight her leadership and grassroots influence.
The programme, held at Nyamira Primary School Grounds, brought together thousands of women and a broad group of political leaders, with Mayaka taking centre stage as the host. Organisers said more than 5,000 women benefited from the empowerment initiative.
The event provided a significant platform for Mayaka as she seeks to expand her political presence in all four constituencies of Nyamira County.
Several leaders who attended spoke positively about her leadership, with public remarks and social-media posts from the event describing her as a leader capable of representing the interests of Nyamira women.
Among the senior figures associated with the event were leaders from the Broad-Based Government, including Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi and Julius Migos Ogamba, while ODM leaders also participated in the programme.
Senator Moses Kajwang also acknowledged the gathering, saying that alongside other leaders, including Junet Mohamed, they had emphasised the importance of empowering women.
For Mayaka, the gathering offered more than an opportunity to distribute empowerment support. It demonstrated her ability to bring together political leaders from different levels and mobilise a sizeable women constituency around her.
Mayaka currently serves as a nominated ODM Member of Parliament and has previously been involved in county-level politics. Parliamentary records show her participation in National Assembly proceedings as a nominated ODM MP.
Her growing visibility in Nyamira comes as political parties and individual leaders begin laying the groundwork for the 2027 elections.
The women empowerment programme has therefore added another dimension to the emerging contest for the Nyamira Women Representative position, with Mayaka increasingly presenting herself as a candidate with experience in both national politics and grassroots mobilisation.
Whether the support witnessed at the Nyamira event will translate into a wider political coalition remains to be seen. But the presence of senior political figures and the public endorsements around Mayaka have placed her firmly in the conversation ahead of 2027.
